Three-quarters of people who die by suicide are not in contact with mental health services, but a substantial proportion see a GP in the months before their death. We worked with Samaritans, GPs, people with experience of using services and others to explore what support GPs need to offer effective help to people with suicidal feelings but without a diagnosed mental health problem.
