Symplur joining Stanford Medicine X’s Educational Grand Challenge on COPD

Starting today, Symplur will collaborate with Stanford Medicine X, Grace Anne Dorney Koppel and Ted Koppel on the 2019 Medicine X | CHANGE Educational Grand Challenge on COPD. Symplur is providing an exclusive COPD Social Media Dashboard as a tool for the participants in the grand challenge to help put change management into practice. These easy-to-use dashboards will uncover insights from open public social media conversations on COPD through access to the Healthcare Social Graph®.

Co-founder Audun Utengen will be on a Grand Challenge panel run by Ted Koppel talking about COPD and Social Media. Audun is also presenting at the opening of this year’s Medicine X with an update on Everyone Included for healthcare conferences – an initiative started from the White House workshop on engaging participants as partners in research.

The topic of this year’s Medicine X | CHANGE educational grand challenge is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD. It is a chronic lung condition that makes breathing difficult for the 16 million Americans who have the disease and the millions more who are undiagnosed. According to the Centers for Disease Control, it is the #4 leading cause of death in the US and includes the conditions emphysema and chronic bronchitis.

Working with Stanford Medicine X on this year’s educational grand challenge are two leading COPD advocacy experts: Grace Anne Dorney Koppel and Ted Koppel.

Symplur is facilitating discovery and insights by providing access to analysis of existing open pubic social media conversations on COPD. Participants of the challenge can access resources through the dedicated Stanford Medicine X COPD Educational Grand Challenge page.
